What’s included in a basic motorcycle tool kit?

Tips

A motorcycle, as a means of transport, is an ideal companion that will take us wherever we want to go comfortably and in the most efficient way possible. However, like any other vehicle, motorcycles require constant maintenance to always stay in top condition. Of course, the best option is to take your bike to the workshop for its proper check-up, but sometimes we can fix certain issues ourselves on the spot. For that, it’s necessary to have a basic motorcycle tool kit, know what each tool is for, and understand how to use them.

In today’s article, we’re going to list all the essential items that shouldn’t be missing from your basic motorcycle tool kit — tools that can save you from more than one tough situation during your rides.

Screwdrivers

A flat-head screwdriver of around 5mm and a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver are essential in your basic tool kit, as they will allow you to access important areas such as the fuse box or the battery terminals. In addition, the flat-head screwdriver is a very useful tool that you can use to remove slotted screws or as a lever or guide on many occasions.

Combination spanner

An excellent tool thanks to its versatility. First of all, it’s important to check that it’s the correct size according to your wheel axles. A combination spanner will help you remove a wheel if you get a flat tyre.

Allen key set

Considering that many components on your motorcycle are assembled using Allen bolts, having a full Allen key set is essential in your bike’s tool kit. Make sure your Allen keys are of good quality to prevent them from breaking when applying too much pressure.

Spark plug wrench

This tool is indispensable in your basic kit. You’ll need to get the specific wrench type for your motorcycle model, and this will allow you to change parts yourself whenever you notice specific faults.

Puncture repair kit

One suggestion we give to those who take medium or long motorcycle trips is to always carry a puncture repair kit, as it can really save you in an emergency. These kits are easy to use and include everything you need to get back on the road when time matters most.
